Scot was born and raised in Cincinnati. He attended college at Washington and Lee University in Virginia, and medical school at the University of Cincinnati. He completed an Ophthalmology Residency at the University of North Carolina in Chapel Hill. Scot relocated to the Northwest in 1979 when he joined Virginia Mason’s professional staff. In 1985 he left VM to join a smaller medical group, Eye Associates Northwest. Scot practiced Ophthalmology until he retired in 2012. In 1990 Scot purchased property on Icicle Creek. He built a log cabin along the creek in 1992. Scot loves Leavenworth and relocated here after retirement. Scot began wood turning in 2009 and has been attending classes and lessons ever since. With more time on his hands, he is working hard to perfect his craft. Scot has always loved beautiful wood and is excited to be working in this media. He says, “no two pieces are ever the same. The wood is alive and changes as it dries which is always a challenge. Every piece of wood has its own features and characteristics which need to be addressed and optimized. The wood will talk to you and you must listen.”
