Working together to end hunger, strengthen community, and celebrate the arts.
The Upper Valley Empty Bowls Festival is an annual fundraiser to support the Upper Valley MEND’s Community Cupboard as well as local youth through art grants.
Empty Bowls is a grassroots movement by artists and crafts people in cities and towns around the world to care for and feed the hungry in their communities. Empty Bowls supports food-related charitable organizations, and has raised millions of dollars to help end hunger. Click HERE for more info.
Annual Events:
Glazing Days - late January weekend with 4 days for the public to paint bowls
UV Empty Bowls Artist Bowls Gala and Showcase Event - an evening in early March to meet the potters who hand threw the soup bowls & artist bowls, and the artists who painted the bowls for auction.
Display of the Artists Auction Bowls - downtown storefronts in Leavenworth store fronts during March.
Online auction of the Artists Auction Bowls - two weeks in early March.
Soup Supper - The last Thursday in March. the soup bowls painted during Glazing Days are returned to the public.
The Community Cupboard
A shopping model-style food pantry in Leavenworth, WA, open six days a week and accessible to anyone in need, with no geographical restrictions.
Shoppers use a points system to buy food. The number of points is based on the number of people in the household.
There are no income or address qualifications.
Shoppers can access seasonal programs like Thanksgiving and Christmas food boxes, holiday gifts for children, and partner programs providing lunch food for children during breaks from school.
